Signs You Need an Emergency AC Repair

Signs You Need an Emergency AC Repair

During the hottest days of summer, air conditioners are lifesavers, but only if they work. And it's not always easy to tell when your A/C will quit all of a sudden and require you to find emergency repair services in Toronto. Here are a few signs to pay attention to when you're facing an emergency.

Strange Noises
Most people can hear their air conditioners from far away. An A/C in good condition produces a consistent whirring sound. However, there are some sounds that you should never hear from this machine, such as loud clanging or sputtering sounds. Do not ignore odd sounds from an air conditioner and investigate each one you hear. If the noises are concerning, contact A-Plus Quality, HVAC Services in the Greater Toronto Area, immediately to have a technician take a look at your A/C.

Warm Air Currents
Expect a stream of warm air from an air conditioner that is not working correctly. The fan may still be running, but the air will never cool. The main cause could be a broken compressor or low refrigerant.

High Levels of Humidity Indoors
Obviously, you'll notice the hot, stuffy air as you sit indoors. This is the increased level of humidity that makes the room too hot to bear. Opening the window helps, but with no wind indoors, the room is still unacceptably uncomfortable. When you hear the A/C running but still feel sweaty, this is a sign that your unit is broken.

Excessive Dirt or Dust
This is the least obvious sign to tell, but when you notice a thick collection of dirt or dust on your air conditioner's vents, it may be time for a repair. A dirty A/C has blockage that prevents cool air from circulating around the room. An additional sign is a dirty filter that needs to be replaced. If it's not replaced after a long period of time, the air will continue blowing, your energy bills will remain high, but you'll barely feel any coolness.

Every damaged appliance has signs that it needs to be fixed immediately. Some people know when they need an emergency A/C repair immediately while others never notice the differences at all. Even if you discover a few signs on your own, your best option is to contact A-Plus Quality, HVAC Services in the Greater Toronto Area, to have a certified technician take a look. If you are in need of an emergency repair, we offer 24/7 repair services- contact us anytime.

FAQ

  • What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.

  • What is a mini-split?

By definition, and simply put, a “Split System” is a heating and air conditioning system which has two main components, the indoor unit and outdoor unit. In short, the indoor unit absorbs heat energy in the cooling mode, and the outdoor unit rejects the very heat absorbed by the indoor unit. And the cycle is repeated until the set temperature is met. Although the indoor and outdoor units are located in physically different, hence “split” locations, they are connected and operate as, one system; continuously circulating refrigerant liquid and vapor by means of interconnecting, dehydrated copper refrigerant lines, commonly referred to as a “Line Set”.

  • Why is there ice building up on the copper pipes?

There can be many reasons why the refrigerant pipes are freezing up but the most common issue is low refrigerant levels. If your AC unit has ice buildup turn off the unit for at least 4 hours and call us at 416-410-0337
