How To Choose A Heat Pump System?

Heat pumps are a great way to keep your house warm and comfortable no matter what weather throws at us. Here is how to choose the best heat pump system for your home so you can stay snug all winter long.

How Does Heat Pump Work?

When choosing a heat pump for your home, the first thing to do is to check the energy source your area uses. If it's natural gas, propane, or electricity, you can look for a gas furnace that will use a gas-fired heat pump.

3 Types of Heat Pumps

1. Air to Air Heat Pumps
Air to air is the most common type of heat pump. It takes the warm air from inside your home and pumps it outside through a duct system, taking the place of a traditional furnace.

2. Water Source Heat Pumps
These use a water source outside your home and an electric pump to move that water around inside.

3. Ground Source Heat Pumps
They are very powerful with more amperage and can be used with electric heat pumps to provide more than enough heat for your home.

Ducted Heat Pumps VS Ductless Heat Pumps

Ducted heat pumps have a small furnace unit installed in the furnace room and a duct system that leads from the living room to the outside, hooking up with the rest of the system.

Ductless requires a flexible system that can be adapted to different temperatures. It means you need to think about whether or not your ductless system will be able to heat your home properly when you are away for extended periods.

What Features are Important While Choosing a Heat Pump?

1. Cost
The lower the cost of a heat pump system is, the better. However, you do want to keep an eye out for hidden costs.

2. Noise
Heat pumps can be very noisy during operation, so you need to ensure that the one you choose fits your home and your needs.

3. Size
The size of a heat pump is important to consider. If you have a smaller home and need to move the warm air around, you might be better off with a smaller system.

FAQ

  • Why is there ice building up on the copper pipes?

There can be many reasons why the refrigerant pipes are freezing up but the most common issue is low refrigerant levels. If your AC unit has ice buildup turn off the unit for at least 4 hours and call us at 416-410-0337

  • What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.

  • How do I know what size unit I need?
If you have any problems with your system, you should contact the contractor who installed the units. All our systems are covered by a 5 year parts, 7 year compressor limited warranty

  • Water is Leaking on my Furnace

Water falling on to the furnace can harm your heating unit by affecting the control boards and other components enclosed in the furnace. There can be many causes to the water overflow, but the most common cases in the summer is the ice build up inside the evaporator coil due to low refrigerant level. Water build up can also be due to the evaporator coil having a crack on the base, if this is the case contact us by booking an appointment or call us today to have a technician come have a look at your unit and repair this issue before it causes excessive damage.

  • Furnace is blowing cold air in Winter?

This can be due to Ignition lockout, sometimes could be resolved by resetting the power  and if this does not resolve the issue you should contact a certified gas technician from A-Plus Quality to get this problem resolved!
