Signs It's Time to Replace Your HVAC Air Filter

An air filter is used to remove airborne particles that are harmful to the lungs if inhaled. Such solid particles include dust, mold, fibres, germs, pollen and many more. HVAC air filters should be changed regularly, on average every 60- 90 days however this will range based on certain factors in your home.  For example, if you live in a home with pets you will need to change your air filter more often than the average homeowner without pets. Furthermore, homes with more occupants or individuals with allergies will also have to change their air filter more frequently.  By changing your air filter, you dispose of the germs trapped in the HVAC system therefore improving the air quality in your home. Also, by changing the air filters, you increase energy efficiency. When the HVAC system is clogged, it is forced to work harder, increasing the amount of energy being used.

Signs That You Need to Change Your Air Filter
It is time to change your filter if you get the following signs:

- Suppose there is dust trapped near the air vents. If you see that there is more dust in your air vents than the other areas of your house, you should know that the filter is worn out and needs to be changed.
- If you have no idea of when you last changed the air filter, it is time to change your air filter.
- If you notice that your electricity bills have spiked up, you should consider checking whether your HVAC system is overworking.
- If you are experiencing allergies, you should change your air filter.

Consequences of Not Changing Your Air Filter
If you don’t change your air filter regularly, you may experience the following consequences:

- Increased energy bills.
- Clogged and damaged HVAC system.
- Taking longer to heat or cool your home.
- The air stagnates in your room, thus becoming stale.

FAQ

  • Why is there ice building up on the copper pipes?

There can be many reasons why the refrigerant pipes are freezing up but the most common issue is low refrigerant levels. If your AC unit has ice buildup turn off the unit for at least 4 hours and call us at 416-410-0337

  • How do I know what size unit I need?
If you have any problems with your system, you should contact the contractor who installed the units. All our systems are covered by a 5 year parts, 7 year compressor limited warranty

  • What is a heat pump?

Heat pumps use electricity to move heat from a cool space to a warm space, making the cool space cooler and the warm space warmer. During the heating season, heat pumps move heat from the cool outdoors into your warm house and during the cooling season, heat pumps move heat from your cool house into the warm outdoors. Because they move heat rather than generate heat, heat pumps can provide equivalent space conditioning at as little as one quarter of the cost of operating conventional heating or cooling appliances.

  • Why should I maintain my Furnace or AC?

An annual maintenance will extend the lifetime of your heating and cooling unit. The technician will diagnose and repair any problem with the unit before it fails, so you won't need to worry about any problems when the weather gets very hot in the summer or extremely cold in the winter.

  • Most common Boiler Issues

    - Boiler fails to ignite
    - Low pressure
    - Strange Noises
    - Boiler is not responding to the thermostat
    - Cold Radiators
    - Boiler leaking or dripping
    - Boiler cycling very fast
    - Available Hot water but No Heat
