Can Rain Damage Your Air Conditioning System?

Air conditioners are meant to take a lot of harsh conditions from nature. It only makes sense that individuals looking for HVAC services in the Greater Toronto Area might be wondering if heavy rain can cause damage.

Can Rain Damage Your AC System?
By itself, no. Most outdoor parts of an AC unit are engineered to keep working even during a heavy rainfall. All electrical connections are safely sealed away from even indirect moisture. However, flooding can damage your AC unit. It has to be severe localized flooding, and as long as you don't have at least 38 centimetres of standing water around your unit, it should weather the storm. Your unit is susceptible to other storm-related damage from hail or high winds, and corrosion can occur if your unit isn't properly covered during the winter months.

How Can You Protect Your AC System?
If hail or high winds are in the forecast, you should consider covering your AC unit with a thick layer of canvas. Keep in mind, however, that you should keep the unit switched off while it's covered, or the unit could potentially overheat.

To avoid wind damage from debris or tree limbs, you should make sure that your yard is clear of branches before a storm starts. If you're worried about low-hanging branches on your tree or a nearby bush, it wouldn't hurt to have them trimmed.

The best way to keep flood waters away is to have your AC unit set up in an elevated area if you can do so. If you're in a flood-prone area, consult a certified technician from A-Plus Quality HVAC services in the Greater Toronto to determine the best spot for your unit.

What Happens After a Storm Passes?
If you aren't sure your AC unit is all right after a storm, then perform a careful inspection of the unit and the area around it for visible damage or any debris that might be nearby. If there is any damage, consult A-Plus Quality HVAC services in the Greater Toronto as soon as possible.

  • Outstanding service all around. (Thanks so very much!) I would highly recommend you to family and friends. All of you were knowledgeable and professional in every way. The technicians were efficient, helped moved a few heavy boxes, and were careful in my house. I especially appreciate that Jack, who gave me good options, helped my choose what was appropriate for my house (to replace my 25 year old furnace) and at a very fair price. Thanks again!

  • We needed a new boiler fast and they were faster than the other places we got quotes from, they were more sincere, less sales-oriented , and they had more technical knowledge and were able to explain things in layman's terms. They were transparent in their pricing and everything came out as estimated after the boiler was replaced. They didn't try to sell us maintenance packages or anything like that, just gave us the service we needed. We feel lucky to have stumbled upon them.

This can be due to Ignition lockout, sometimes could be resolved by resetting the power  and if this does not resolve the issue you should contact a certified gas technician from A-Plus Quality to get this problem resolved!

  • Water is Leaking on my Furnace

Water falling on to the furnace can harm your heating unit by affecting the control boards and other components enclosed in the furnace. There can be many causes to the water overflow, but the most common cases in the summer is the ice build up inside the evaporator coil due to low refrigerant level. Water build up can also be due to the evaporator coil having a crack on the base, if this is the case contact us by booking an appointment or call us today to have a technician come have a look at your unit and repair this issue before it causes excessive damage.

  • Why is there ice building up on the copper pipes?

There can be many reasons why the refrigerant pipes are freezing up but the most common issue is low refrigerant levels. If your AC unit has ice buildup turn off the unit for at least 4 hours and call us at 416-410-0337
